About the Book, We’re Going to Publish Worldwide

We are to publish a book with the title ACTIVE LEARNING IN HIGHER EDUCATION. The book will be available worldwide.

We invite faculty members at higher education institutions to write a BOOK CHAPTER showcasing an example of active learning at the university level and participate in the online symposium – where authors collaborate to finalise the book manuscript for publication.

WHY ACTIVE LEARNING?

Active learning is a method of learning where students are actively involved in the learning process.

For decades the dominant paradigm underlying university teaching has been didactic teaching in lecture theatres, where one responsible teacher delivers content to students.

Social learning theories, modern epistemologies, and new technologies are some of the aspects that have pushed for a change in the paradigm of teaching and learning in higher education.

Today, prime examples of learning-centred teaching and learning are based on active learning methodologies like:

  • Problem-based learning
  • Inquiry-based learning
  • Case-based learning
  • Research-based learning
  • Project-based learning
  • Blended learning
  • and other similar methodologies

We seek inspiring examples of how such active learning methodologies are practised at the university level.

The book we will write together at the 23rd international LiHE-symposium will showcase prime examples of ACTIVE LEARNING IN HIGHER EDUCATION.

We call upon teachers, researchers, and relevant professionals in higher education to submit a BOOK CHAPTER for inclusion in this inspiring international book of the highest quality. The book will inspire readers to engage their students in new ways of teaching and learning.

The book will document ACTIVE LEARNING IN HIGHER EDUCATION.

The book will be published worldwide by Libri Publishing Ltd., Oxfordshire, UK.

You will get credited as an author of the BOOK CHAPTER you submit. All BOOK CHAPTERS are double-blind reviewed, reviewed by peer-reviewers in collegial workgroups, and undergo editorial reviews.

Book editors: Kayoko Enomoto, Richard Warner and Claus Nygaard

A. You must clearly describe your case of active learning. We wish to publish a book that inspires readers to take action and implement active learning themselves.

Q. Is the case of active learning documented in the BOOK CHAPTER compelling and concise?
A. It is a must that the readers will be able to follow your active learning methodology in such detail that they can implement a similar practice in their own university settings. We wish to publish a book that inspires readers to take action and implement active learning themselves.

Q. Is the BOOK CHAPTER rooted in learning theory?
A. Your case of active learning must be rooted in and reflected within the framework of a learning theory such as behaviourism, cognitivism, constructivism, humanism or similar. We aim to publish a book that clearly contributes to the field of learning theories.

Q. Is the BOOK CHAPTER rooted in active learning methodology?
A. It is also necessary that your active learning case clearly utilises theory-informed active learning methodology. It may be
Problem-based learning, Inquiry-based learning, Case-based learning, Research-based learning, Project-based learning, Blended learning and other similar methodologies. We aim to publish a book that clearly contributes to the field of active learning methodologies.
