CALL FOR BOOK CHAPTERS

We call upon teachers, researchers, and relevant professionals in higher education to submit a BOOK CHAPTER for inclusion in the book “AI in Higher Education – enhancing student motivation, engagement and learning” to be published worldwide by Libri Publishing Ltd., Oxfordshire, U.K.

Submit a BOOK CHAPTER showcasing an example of how AI has been used, is being used, or can be used to enhance student motivation, engagement and learning at the university level and participate in the symposium held in Aegina Island, Greece – where authors meet for the book-writing symposium and collaborate to finalise the book manuscript for worldwide publication.

WHY AI IS RELEVANT IN CONTEMPORARY HIGHER EDUCATION

With the exponential growth of AI tools built on LLM’s (large language models) like ChatGPT and related AI plugins and software, we have the potential to revolutionise higher education.

AI can generate human-like responses in real-time, can provide educators with innovative methods of enhancing student motivation, engage students in interactive learning experiences, foster critical thinking and problem-solving skills, provide personalised learning opportunities, and enhance student learning outcomes.

  • Already, we have seen AI being used in university education to revolutionise various aspects of teaching and learning.
  • For instance, instructors are integrating AI into intelligent tutoring systems, allowing students to receive feedback specifically tailored to their learning needs. This innovation has shown great potential in improving student learning outcomes by catering to individual strengths and areas for improvement.
  • Moreover, educators have been leveraging the power of AI to facilitate engaging online discussions that enhance student participation and critical thinking. By incorporating ChatGPT or other AI tools into synchronous or asynchronous learning platforms, teachers foster richer and more meaningful exchanges among their students, thereby deepening their understanding of course content.
  • In addition, AI has proven valuable in assisting students in honing their research skills. By streamlining literature searches, summarising information from various sources, and generating outlines for research papers, AI contributes to the development of essential academic competencies that students need to excel in their respective fields.
  • Notably, AI has emerged as a vital multilingual support tool for non-native English speakers. By providing translations and helping students navigate the nuances of the English language, AI facilitates smoother communication and ensures a more inclusive learning environment for students from diverse linguistic backgrounds.

These examples showcase the promising ways AI is already being employed in higher education settings, with educators and students alike reaping the benefits of this cutting-edge AI technology. The potential for AI in transforming pedagogical strategies, enhancing student learning outcomes, and promoting a more inclusive and engaging educational experience is truly inspiring. As educators continue to innovate and experiment with AI applications, we can anticipate a future in which AI further expands the horizons of teaching and learning within universities worldwide.

TOPICS COULD BE…

This book seeks to explore the diverse ways in which AI can be used to improve student learning outcomes, with a particular focus on theory-informed pedagogical methodologies and practical applications of AI in educational settings. By sharing their experiences, authors can inspire and inform others in higher education who may be interested in incorporating AI into their teaching and learning practices.

Some possible topics could be:

  1. AI-driven assessment and feedback systems: This subject area explores the role of AI in automating student assessment and providing personalised feedback to improve student performance. As educators grapple with increasing class sizes and diverse learner needs, AI-driven tools can offer a more efficient and precise approach to assessment and feedback. This subject is relevant due to its potential impact on enhancing the quality of learning experiences for students and promoting fairer, more inclusive assessment practices.
  2. AI-enhanced language learning: This subject area examines how AI can support language learning and teaching by providing translation services, interactive exercises, and personalised learning plans for students from diverse linguistic backgrounds. With globalisation and the increasing demand for bilingual and multilingual professionals, exploring AI’s role in promoting effective language learning is crucial for maintaining a competitive workforce in the higher education sector.
  3. AI in curriculum design and content delivery: This subject area investigates the integration of AI in designing curricula and delivering content that adapts to individual learner needs, optimises learning paths, and increases the relevance and accessibility of course materials. As higher education institutions seek to offer more personalised and adaptive learning experiences, understanding AI’s potential to assist in curriculum design and content delivery is highly relevant and timely.
  4. AI for academic research support: This subject area focuses on the role of AI in assisting students and researchers in conducting academic research, including literature searches, summarising information, and generating research paper outlines. With increasing volumes of data and research material available, AI-driven tools can help students and researchers navigate through vast amounts of information efficiently. This subject is relevant as it can significantly influence research efficiency, quality, and students’ critical thinking development.
  5. AI for collaborative learning and group work: This subject area examines how AI can facilitate collaboration among students, enhance communication, and support the organisation of group work and projects. Implementing AI tools for collaborative learning can promote more equitable participation and drive higher levels of critical thinking among students. This is particularly relevant in the current online and blended learning age, where effective collaboration is critical for student success.
  6. AI in fostering academic integrity: This subject area studies the integration of AI in detecting and deterring academic misconduct, such as plagiarism and cheating in assessments. Higher education institutions can maintain their credibility and enhance student learning outcomes by deploying AI-driven tools to monitor and uphold academic integrity. This subject is highly relevant, given the pervasive issue of academic dishonesty and the increasing need for integrity in learning environments.
  7. AI for career guidance and employability support: This subject area looks at how AI can assist students in identifying career opportunities, mapping skills and competencies to future job prospects, and providing personalised mentorship for professional development. As higher education institutions are increasingly expected to prepare students for the world of work, exploring AI’s potential to aid in career guidance and employability support becomes highly relevant, thus enhancing student motivation, engagement and learning
  8. AI in promoting inclusive learning environments: This subject area delves into the role of AI in creating inclusive spaces for teaching and learning to accommodate learners with diverse needs, such as students with disabilities or mental health issues. AI-driven tools can be utilised to provide better accessibility options, adaptive learning materials, and tailored support services. This subject is highly relevant, as fostering inclusivity in higher education is critical to enabling all students to access and participate fully in their learning experiences.
  9. AI-empowered teacher training and professional development: This subject area investigates how AI-driven tools can enhance professional development opportunities for educators by providing targeted training, identifying areas for improvement, and facilitating personalised learning pathways. By incorporating AI into teacher training and professional development, higher education institutions can build more effective and innovative teaching practices to enhance enhancing student motivation, engagement and learning. This subject is relevant due to its potential to shape and influence the future of teaching in higher education.
  10. Ethical considerations in AI-driven higher education: This subject area critically discusses the ethical implications of using AI in teaching and learning contexts, including data privacy, security, and fairness concerns. The integration of AI tools in higher education has the potential to raise several ethical questions, such as potential biases in AI algorithms or the implications for human-AI interaction in the learning process. This subject is highly relevant, as it speaks to the responsible and ethical implementation of AI in higher education, which is crucial for the sustainable and positive development of the sector.

We encourage you to write according to your own interest and experience with AI in Higher Education – and with a particular focus on how you have used it / plan to use it for enhancing student motivation, engagement and learning.
